Results: 2nd bikercross, ( short course took 2 min, ) and 2nd in the feature event the A-Line downhill. I was at a mountain bike festival in Whistler called
Crankworx. It was from the 2st to the 29th of July. Every day there is
a different race featured. We got there on Thursday the 26th It was raining
and rained until Monday. On SaturdayI had to race an event called Bikercross
(it is a downhill supercross course, with doubles, whoops and a few good
sized tables) . So I had to get a few runs in on Friday, to check out
the course. Saturday it poured rain. We had to qualify on time and then
race elimination heats. I qualified 2nd and had to race the 3rd seed
in the first heat. I won the heat by 12 sec. and moved to the final.
I finished 2nd in the final. I got beat by the Ricky Carmichael of bikercross
(never been beaten). The main thing was I felt good about my race. It
should be noted that I had the most awesome umbrella girl all night (Shelley).
On Wednesday I raced a race called the A-line air downhill. This is a
downhill with at least 100 jumps and about the same number of corners.
It is scored on time. Earlier I was practicing and was turning times
in the 6 min 45 sec range and on the race day I turned a 6:32 for second
place, which I was very pleased with. Shelley raced on Sunday in a race
called The Garbonzo Downhill, one of the longest races in the world.
It is a race from the very top of the mountain, to the bottom, through
roughest terrain there is. It had rained for days, and all the roots
and rocks were slippery and impossible to race flat out on. She raced
in the Intermediate Ladies class and she was 7th out of 13, with a time
of 24 min. My bike is a four wheel, downhill, mountain bike made in Whistler
by a company called R-One Fourcross. It has 5 inches of travel, 4 wheel
independent suspension, 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes, a steering damper,
and is propelled by pushing like a wheelchair. You wheel to the chairlift,
hop out, get on the chair and put the bike in your lap. Shelley sits
on the other side and up we go. Sorry if this is longwinded but it is
hard to sum up the week in a few words Click here to read an article Inside Motocross Magazine did on Ellis Click here to see an article Inside Motorcycles Magazine did on Ellis |
