Welcome, to the BC Oldtimer’s . Where the Prime Directive is FUN!
We are totally addicted and dedicated to motocross. WE have arrived in the ‘age and treachery’ zone (which will always overcome youth and skill). However, if you are under 40 years old and therefore not yet an Oldtimer, we do not condone you speeding, passing, leaping (ie. rubber leaving the ground), or any other form of activity that requires, or indicates any form of, youth and skill. It is especially forbidden to ‘leap’ over an Oldtimer’s head while riding. Most of all, we are fanatical about not allowing AGING. Most of us Oldtimer’s strongly believe that our age is a ‘typo’ and go about our daily lives ignoring the various indications to the contrary. I personally carry white-out to avoid any evidence of aging. We are entertained by the speed of youth and even more entertained as they pull off the track, exhausted after 3 laps, while we do the energizer bunny routine. You see, our International races are 20 minute motos - 5 of them! and I am fairly certain that the young guy’s time pieces only go up to 10 minutes (maybe). I know they can only count to 2 motos. It’s not their fault, as all local races are one day – 2 moto format! I shouldn’t discourage them though, as they eventually reach the age of forty, they will finally acquire endurance. Have you heard the one about the 2 bulls and the cows? Don’t get me wrong. We love kids. We are one.
MOTOCROSS: It is the world’s most physically demanding sport and the DEA is trying to ban it because it is so addictive. It includes almost every aspect of regular life. In motocross, you experience winning and losing, exhilaration and depression, fear and bravery, self achievement and self defeat, tenacity and hesitation, beauty and the beast, pain and pleasure, violence and grace, “The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat”. On top of all of that, it is an adrenalin junkie’s greatest dream! Although it can be a dangerous sport, that very danger coupled with the physical and mental demands motocross places on you, is what keeps all of us Oldtimer’s young. Ask your neighbour “What do you do to act your age?”
Our home track is the beautiful Agassiz track, near world famous Harrison Hot Springs Resort, on Harrison Lake. The track is laid out among the evergreens, on the side of a hill, with a beautiful park next door for camping during our International Race in July. There is a beautiful view of the spectacular local mountains as well, with Mt. Cheam (pronounced shee-am) being the prominent one.
So far, we have spent thousands of dollars on improving the Agassiz track and have had nothing but positive feedback for our efforts. Virtually all of the money we spend is on improving the Agassiz track for you, our members. We will continue to do so, so please continue to support our practices and our annual race. Remember that YOU are the beneficiary.
We hold 3 practices a year, plus our International Race. The events are open to all ages, with the only requirement being that you must be a member of the BC Oldtimer’s, or one of the internationally affiliated Oldtimer’s clubs. Membership applications are available at the track and on this website. However, we encourage you to join early in order to ensure there are no delays at the track. We would like to see you get in as much riding time as possible. The practices cater to all age groups, equally. From 2 year olds to over 80 (older groups upon request). We try hard to include all age groups in our International Race, but the race caters to Oldtimer’s as a priority, and sometimes we cannot include every age group due to time constraints. We sincerely understand the need to include our youngest riders and always make every effort to do so.
I would like to give continued thanks to the executive for their dedication and support, without which we could not have accomplished the many things that we have since 2002. So to Bill, Randy and Cliff: THANK YOU.
A BIG THANK YOU to all the motorcycle shops and suppliers that contribute to our world famous raffle that we have at our International Race. It is awesome, and is being copied at more International races every year. A very special thanks to FOX for their amazing support.
Thank you to Anna-Marie Tschurtschenthaler of Anna Marie’s Café, in Langley, and mother of talented motocross kids of her own. She has taken care of the catering for our famous dinner for the last few years. We turned to Anna-Marie when the Vancouver Island boys quit showing up with their salmon to bake. Anna-Marie does an awesome job and provides Haut Cuisine at a dusty old track as though it was at a fine restaurant in Vancouver. THANK YOU Anna-Marie.
I would also like to give SPECIAL THANKS to Laurence St. Pierre and Joe and Vera Godsall, who give tirelessly to our beloved sport, including their generous support of the BC Oldtimer’s and our events. Without their support we would not have a home track and our events would be far more difficult to put on.
I strongly encourage you to take in some of the other International events on the schedule. The 3 closest ones are Spokane, Washougal and Boise, Idaho. Spokane and Boise are big fast tracks, that are very exciting and a ton of fun. All 3 are old fashioned motocross, with motocross jumps and no supercross obstacles. The camaraderie at these events is unparalleled
So . . . come ride with us and enjoy. Just try not to act your age.
