NORONA’S SLED TRIP WITH DANNY SULLIVAN.

This was a trip with my good friend Greg who is great friends with Danny Sullivan (race car legend) and his wife Brenda. For those of you who do not know the name Danny Sullivan he is the 1985 Indy 500 Winner and 1988 CART Champion. He is a legend!!! Here is a link to his history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Sullivan  Greg wanted to show them the Pemberton Ice Cap and invited me along as I know the area and do specialized trips with cool people. So off we go up the Rutherford Entrance which is just outside of Pemberton. Our good friend Steve is also the past owner of Blackcomb helicopters and he said he would maybe look out for us when we were up there as he was getting some broken sleds out of the alpine.

We made it past the cabin after 25 km and started up the toe of the ice cap when I heard a whoomp whoomp over my head. Suddenly a black mechanical bird was like 40 feet over my head. It was Steve buzzing me of course. He quickly landed and offered us a rip around the ice cap.
So we left our sleds for the warmth of the helicopter and wicked rock music in the headphones and took off around the ice cap taking it all in. It really should be one of the 7 wonders of the world. It is amazing.

After rippin’ around, it was back to the sleds for a cool ride to a place called Top of The World at 8300 feet where we had lunch in the sun, got some great shots and headed back. Danny still rips and Danny's wife is super cool and rips too.
We finished off the day in Whistler over sushi and drinks. Another great day just like hanging out with my good friend Don Tocher at Onion Lake, near Lytton, the best trail riding in the world...Dave Norona

President’s note: If you aren’t familiar with Dave Norona, he is a world renowned Adventure Racer and one of 5 people to ever complete the Iditasport Impossible. This isn’t as much a race as a survival trip. This event is doing the 1800 km Idatarod Trail that the dog sled racers use, only doing it on cross country skis. The Idatasport rates this category as ‘Beyond’ in difficulty. Of course, he won the event that year, which was the Millenium event (2000). Iditasport is the Human powered version of the Iditarod. Here is a link to his many, many accomplishments: http://noronalife.com/about/results.html

Dave and I became friends when Chris Carter brought him and his lovely girlfriend, Kim out to one of our International race events. It was Dave and Kim’s first motocross race.

Another note. One weekend when we were riding Onion Lake, Dave’s good friend Greg (in the bright green/yellow jacket) had Dave trailer his bike up form Pemberton and he flew in with his helicopter. Living the good life.

Ellis and Shelley Tull went to the Idaho Oldtimers race a week early and raced the Boise track on Sunday and then went to the Pleasant Valley track and spent a day on that track with Shelley as the only rider, except for Damon Bradshaw. He was testing a pair of Fly prototype boots. See if you can see them. He had to stand behind his bike so the picture wouldn’t show them. Ellis said Damon was a super nice guy. They then went to the Twin Falls track before going back to Boise for the International Oldtimer’s race.
